Empowering Knee Rehabilitation and Assistance of Athletes with a Soft Robotic Exosuit

This project will focus on developing and evaluating a novel undergarment soft robotic lower-limb exosuit to: (1) provide advanced robotic assisted rehabilitation therapy to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injured athletes, (2) provide injury mitigation to athletes by increasing proprioception, and (3) provide resistance to athletes’ joints and muscles to explore the idea of a wearable muscle strengthening exosuit. We will make use of soft robotic technologies that offer proven advantages in the field of wearables to counterbalance the disadvantages found in traditional rigid robotic exoskeletons that are usually bulky, heavy, expensive, and difficult to align with biological joints.
