Tackling Racial Inequities in College Sports

Of all job openings for athletic directors at Division I institutions between 2010 and 2019, 77 percent were filled by a white administrator, 19 percent by a Black administrator and 2 percent by a Latino administrator, according to a report published last week by researchers at Arizona State University’s Global Sport Institute.

Why do Black college football coaches seldom get second chances?

There have been 54 non-interim Black head coaches ever in major-college football, otherwise known as the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), all since 1979. More than any other reason, this low number is why Black head coaches rarely get second chances – because there aren’t many who even got first chances.
