Sport + Sustainability Venture Challenge
The Global Sport Institute at Arizona State University (GSI) and the Green Sports Alliance (GSA), a world-renowned environmentally-focused trade organization, have come together to establish a global sport + sustainability venture challenge designed to empower early stage startups looking to make an impact through sport, particularly in the areas of waste, water and energy.
The Global Sport Institute and Green Sports Alliance seek like-minded organizations to serve as partners and sponsors for the venture challenge. Previous sponsors of GSI innovation programs include the Arizona Coyotes, Mortenson Construction, the global law firm DLA Piper, invisionAZ, the Arizona Lottery and Oak View Group.

The Global Sport Institute partners with the ASU's J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Institute offer one-to-one coaching, opportunities for grant funding, and access to a burgeoning network of advisors through strategic relationships and partnerships for qualified ventures.
The Global Sport Venture Challenge (GSVC) and the follow-up Global Sport Venture Development program (GSVD) assist qualified students, faculty, and community entrepreneurs in developing their products and/or services to appeal to sport-related market segments. GSVD provides the ventures with up to $50,000 in grant funding, one-on-one coaching, university resources, and access to a carefully curated network of advisors and strategic partners.
The Arizona Coyotes Venture Challenge will help establish new and innovative sport concepts that can be launched, piloted, and scaled within the Coyotes’ various facilities. This program provides a launchpad for aspiring entrepreneurs while keeping the Coyotes on the forefront of new sport-related innovation.
Along with the Coyotes, Mortenson Construction has donated $20,000, access to office/conference space for locally based ventures, and marketing support through their Marketing department for the winner(s) of the competition. In addition, DLA Piper has provided up to 15 hours of legal services for the winning venture and will offered a legal workshop for the competition finalists.
The Global Sport Institute and the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute will supply the winner of the venture challenge with promotional resources, workshops, and 1:1 mentorship. The entities have also committed to providing up to $60,000 in funding to the winning venture(s).
The Sun Devil Athletics' Venture Challenge (SDAVC) helps establish new and innovative sport concepts that can be launched, piloted, and scaled at Sun Devil Athletics’ various facilities. Sun Devil Athletics will select the winner(s) of the venture challenge and give them the opportunity to implement their product/service at Sun Devil Athletics’ facilities. The Global Sport Institute and Edson E+I supply the winners of the venture challenge with promotional resources, mentorship, coaching, and award(s) of up to $50,000 per year.
The challenge focuses on areas of innovation that are important to athletics’ operation. These can include, but are not limited to: venue and facility innovations, immersive technology, consumer engagement and/or athlete performance.
We are proud to partner with J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute who provides a wide variety of opportunities to explore, share, test and advance ideas. They serve as a connecting and collaborating resource for entrepreneurs at all stages across ASU and throughout the Valley of the Sun.
