Maryland has a Black offensive coordinator in Scottie Montgomery. According to a study from the Global Sport Institute at Arizona State University, the hire is notable because at least 77% of offensive coordinators hired throughout college football over the past 10 years were white.

“It’s hard to come up with the words to say what it means to me to see Maryland with a Black head coach, a Black OC, and a Black man AD,” Carter said. “It warms my heart to see those brothers taking advantage of their opportunities. It gives us all hope that if we get the chance, we can be great, as well.”
