Meet Our Fall 2020 Global Sport Venture Winners

The Global Sport Institute is proud to continue its partnership with the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute in hosting the Global Sport Venture Challenge. Winners of this semester’s competition are provided with coaching, mentorship, and opportunities for grant funding. 

The Global Sport Institute awarded a total of $16,000 dollars during this most recent Demo Day. Our innovative awardees are leading the way in transforming the sports industry. Learn more about the 8 ventures:

 

Fanalyze

Fanalyze is a sports search engine and analysis platform. The app provides users with relevant data to help research and determine sports betting and fantasy team decisions. 

 

Temp Defender

Temp Defender embeds wearable technology into athletic equipment to collect data regarding athlete’s temperature throughout practice and competition. This data can support athletes and coaches in making informed decisions that sustain athlete health. 

 

The Navajo Mountain Bike Initiative

The Navajo Mountain Bike Initiative works with tribal leadership to foster health advocacy and economic development in Navajo Nation. The initiative implemented a pay to ride system which provides revenue for the community, and a pump track to teach people of all ages how to mountain bike safely. 

 

Freebowler

Freebowler created the first non-electric, portable ball thrower for cricket. It provides consistent pitching and reduces injury while being inexpensive and accessible to athletes at each level of sport. Freebowler is also a 2018 Global Sport Venture Challenge winner. Over the last two years, they have raised $450,000 in seed funding and established partnerships with SG and Kopjis. 

 

GMDY

GMDY thrives on the instant gratification mentality among sports fans, as well as athletes’ increasing commitment to building their influence. By working with retailers and athletes, GMDY creates a real-time shopping experience while fans are watching the game. 

 

Wild Portals

Wild Portals takes the mobile sporting experience to a new level with Sports Reality Marketing ™ , combination of markers creating an AR activation. Wild Portals uses this AR technology to create elaborate, 3D filters that create sponsorship opportunities and an exciting social media experience.

 

Wager Champs

Wager Champs provides a risk-free way to experience sports betting for any sport and any league. Using fake virtual currency, the website allows users to put their skills to the test with live betting, Vegas odds, and parlays.   

 

REV Canvas

REV Canvas is an expressive arts (EA) curriculum designed to provide a solution to burnout in youth sport. Activities based in drawing, writing, and other forms of EA are geared specifically towards young athletes to develop positive self identity and enhance their experiences in and beyond sport. 

 

In the coming weeks, these ventures will receive mentoring and resources that will propel them into the next level of the global sport industry. We are proud of these venture challenge winners, and we are excited to see what they will accomplish.
