Gina Hemphill-Strachan

Gina Hemphill-Strachan is a Chicago native and media industry veteran who has built a career and reputation as one of the top talent producers in sports and entertainment. With over 25 years of network and cable experience, Gina’s work includes live studio, remote, taped turnaround, news and feature production. Gina has specialized in booking A-list guests and has produced celebrity segments and human-interest stories for Oprah Winfrey, Johnny Carson, Katie Couric, Bob Costas, Anderson Cooper and others.  She has also worked as a Feature Producer for the coverage of nine Olympic games, two World Series and the Daytime Emmy Awards.

The granddaughter of legendary Olympic champion Jesse Owens, Gina has a deep and meaningful understanding of the challenges and adversity faced by athletes, and how their stories can impact a nation.

As a producer, Gina is able to find and secure interviews with both marquee guests and those who provide a unique and unexpected perspective. Her career has taken her across the globe and has afforded her the opportunity to work with some of the most outstanding personalities in sports and entertainment.

An inspiring and effective leadership and communications coach, Gina calls upon her extensive experience on both sides of the lens to help athletes and other high-profile personalities craft their stories as only they can, connect with audiences in a meaningful way, and make powerful contributions to conversations on complex issues.

Most recently, as the talent producer at MLB Network, Gina coordinated interviews with players, managers, GM’s and unique baseball fans for the network shows, features, documentaries and specials. Previously, she was Senior Talent Manager for ESPN’s Quite Frankly w/Stephen A. Smith and Talent Producer for ESPNews. Recent consulting projects include collaborations with www.fivethirtyeight.com, a project for TNT, the ESPY’s and ESPN Humanitarian Awards, The Ashley Graham Project and a collaboration with Oprah Winfrey on a project for OWN.

Gina has won a total of 11 Emmy awards, and in addition to her television accolades, she has had the distinct honor of carrying the Olympic torch in four Olympic torch relays, one of which was in the opening ceremony of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in honor of her grandfather. She is the ONLY person in Olympic history to have carried the Olympic torch twice in one Olympiad, which ironically is a question in the original board game of Trivial Pursuit.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Gina is on the advisory board of the Ross Initiative for Sports Equality (RISE), a board member of the International Athletic Association (IAA), a member of the scholarship committee for the Jesse Owens Foundation, an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a life member of The Links, Inc., and a Leadership coach for Momentum Education. Gina lives in Hartsdale, NY with her husband George and in her spare time loves to travel, going to movies & sporting events, entertaining at home, listening and dancing to house music and spending time with her nephew and two grandkids.
